Over the past few weeks, I've made significant changes to the Michigan Women website, creating a clearer direction and more actionable opportunities for you to engage with our programs. The goal is to provide a trusted, accessible platform that empowers women like you to connect, learn, and take meaningful action in your communities.

About Michigan Women

A nonpartisan, non-profit coalition of women advocating for their communities.

To create a trusted space where Michigan women feel empowered to share their voices, connect authentically, and work together with their communities to foster understanding, engagement, and meaningful change.

We envision a Michigan where women actively participate in every aspect of what matters to our communities. Our voices are respected, valued, and recognized as essential to shaping communities and influencing policies that drive progress and strengthen our state.

Why Women?

Women in Michigan are eager to positively impact their communities but often feel powerless to do so. Barriers such as a lack of clear guidance, declining local news, and reluctance to speak out can leave many feeling disconnected from the decisions shaping their lives. They crave a trusted community where they can share knowledge, amplify their voices, and take collective action to drive change.

We focus on women because they play a vital role in shaping strong, connected communities. Historically, women have been catalysts for progress, fostering collaboration, understanding, and resilience in the face of challenges.

By creating a space specifically designed for women, we provide an environment where they can freely share ideas, ask questions, and support one another without fear of judgment or being overshadowed. This focus allows women to connect over shared experiences, build confidence, and develop solutions that reflect their unique perspectives and priorities.

While we prioritize uplifting women, we believe community progress thrives on inclusivity. We welcome anyone—regardless of gender—who shares our vision for a stronger, more connected Michigan.

Strategic Plan

Develop a statewide community engagement initiative that empowers women and allies to connect, learn, and act on local issues.

Goals

• Foster Community Engagement: Build stronger connections between Michigan women by providing opportunities for dialogue and collaboration.
• Increase Civic Awareness: Empower individuals with knowledge about local governance, community resources, and civic processes.
• Promote Meaningful Action: Inspire and support individuals in taking actionable steps to improve their communities.
• Build Leadership Capacity: Develop a network of advocates and leaders who can drive positive change at the local level.
• Create Accessible Resources: Simplify access to reliable information about Michigan communities and opportunities for involvement.

Objectives

We offer three programs designed to inform, connect, and empower Michigan women to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

1. MI Community Context: Know What's Happening

Stay informed about Michigan’s challenges and successes through curated content, podcasts, and civic education tools.

The MI Community Context program expands access to information about local governance, community resources, and pressing issues often overlooked or underrepresented in mainstream conversations. By providing a reliable and centralized platform, the program reduces frustration and empowers participants to stay informed and confidently engage with their communities.

1. MI Curated Community Resources: Access a growing library of resources to learn about, get involved with, and leverage everything our communities have to offer!(Starting soon in Q1 2025. Gathering ideas and information now.)
2. MI Civic Essentials Center: Increase civic education and awareness by understanding the basics of government and knowing your local elected officials and the bills and laws they are working on that shape our communities. (It's a work in progress, but there is a good start!)

2. MI Community Conversations: Share Perspectives

Share perspectives through live video discussions and online forums, building relationships with neighbors and local leaders.

The MI Community Conversations program provides the opportunity, time, and space to engage with your neighbors, leaders, and community members in thoughtful discussions about the most important local issues. By joining MI Community Conversations, you’ll build relationships, gain new perspectives, and collaborate on real solutions to local issues.

1. Join a live, video-based conversation with your neighbors every other Tuesday @ 7:00 PM to learn from each other and explore community-selected topics.
2. MI Community Conversations Podcast: Hear from local leaders and dive into the issues that matter most to Michigan communities. (First interview done! The first episode release date is Feb. 19th, 2025).

3. MI Community Collective: Take Action

Take action by joining causes, organizing groups, and advocating for meaningful change.

The MI Community Collective program is your guide to taking action and making a meaningful impact in your community. Explore a growing list of local non-profits and causes where you can volunteer your time, share your talents, and contribute to positive change. Alongside the list, you'll find practical instructions and guidance to help you match your skills and passions with the needs of your community.

(Launching soon in 2025. We're currently gathering information and ideas to make this resource as helpful and accessible as possible.)
